U'fumene Game RanchAlicedale, Eastern Cape, South Africa Bed and Breakfast from R 1,200 (family units from R 5,400) | R 1,200 |
A holiday break at U'fumene means experiencing wildlife and enjoying the comfort and pleasures of a boutique lodge. Unlike most game ranches, we also offer an active farmyard with lots of things to see and do, especially for children.
Your first impression as a guest will be the stunning views over the pond and U'fumene's vast floodplains. Your bedroom will be spacious, with en-suite changing rooms and bathrooms. You will live in a lodge decorated with rich antiques and fine art from Europe, Asia and Africa. Lodge life mostly happens on the large covered veranda, furnished with sofas, chairs and tables, and a summer kitchen and dining area. A refreshing swim in the pool is only a few steps away. On cold days, life moves indoors to the open-plan hall that includes a kitchen, dining room and lounge with an open fireplace.
You will be able to keep in touch with the outside world via cell phone and wireless Internet, with English language TV channels available to follow the news and major sporting events. As for entertainment, we have a large library of books and movies for guests' use.
Most of our meat and produce for the kitchen is fresh and organically raised at the farm. Depending on the season, menu items for the day are set jointly with the guests. You can choose hearty South African cuisine or one our speciality dishes from Austria, France, Italy, Singapore, India, or simply have a relaxed braai.
We raise cows, sheep, chickens and wonderful game birds. We grow vegetables and fruit in the orchard and hay as fodder for our livestock. The routines of planting, raising, feeding, harvesting and processing our produce provides plenty of interesting things to do or learn; there are horses to groom, chickens to feed, eggs to collect, and fish to catch in the pond.
Horse-back and donkey cart rides, night and game drives, picnics on the high plains and many more activities can be easily arranged. Of course, you can always relax with a good book and music on the pool or alongside the lake or challenge us to a game of boules, darts or fun table games.
